Can our group get an .or.ke domain?

Yes, if it is a registered non-profit. KENIC, which runs .ke domains, asks for proof of not-for-profit status, such as your registration certificate, before the name goes live. We send the document for you. An .or.ke domain is free with the package.

What exactly does KES 3,000 a year include?

A free .co.ke, .or.ke, .sc.ke or .ac.ke domain, unlimited email accounts on it, 20 GB of storage shared by the mailboxes and a website, free SSL, setup of your mailboxes by our team, and 24/7 support. Prices exclude 16% VAT, so the yearly invoice is KES 3,480.

How do we hand email over after elections?

Use role addresses such as chair@ and secretary@ rather than personal names. After the AGM, whoever holds the admin login changes the passwords and gives them to the new officials. Every past message stays in the mailbox.

Can every member have an address?

You can, but most groups keep the domain for officials and committees. The 20 GB of storage is shared, so hundreds of member mailboxes would fill it quickly. Talk to us if you need a bigger plan.

Do we need to be registered first?

For an .or.ke domain, yes. Associations register under the Societies Act, and self-help and community groups register with the county social development office. A group that is not yet registered can start on .co.ke.

We already use a Gmail address. What happens to it?

Keep it running while you move over. Announce the new address at your next meeting, update the bank and M-Pesa contacts, and set an auto-reply on the old one. Our support team can walk you through each step.

Will it work on officials' phones?

Yes. Every mailbox works in webmail from any browser and in the mail apps on Android and iPhone, and in Outlook. We help connect devices as part of setup.

Can we put a website on the same package?

Yes. The package is a full hosting account with free SSL, so a website with your constitution, notices and membership form can run on the same domain.
